A group of us men met around a fire for time of encouragement, challenge and the pursuit of God together! When we gather we stoke the fire of our hearts to be gospel-centered men who exemplify Jesus in our homes, neighborhoods and workplaces.
This particular night we weren’t in the wilderness as usual but in a man’s backyard. He shared the history of the neighborhood and how he has labored to help people and the area become a redeemed and restored place. He shared how there are 2 houses in the neighborhood that stick out like a black eye. One house had suffered fire damage and was boarded up and another was abandoned with a back yard filled with junk and a very unappealing curbside presence.
Our brother was open about the success he had seen God work in the neighborhood and his frustration and wanting to leave at times and move to a “nicer” place. He was currently in a place of encouragement where God had moved him to invest further in the people and neighborhood.
We rallied with our brother walking around the neighborhood and calling God to transform it. We called on Jesus to redeem and restore the people to the Father by the power of the Gospel and work of the Holy Spirit. We spent extended times in prayer in front of the specific houses, walked back to our buddy’s place and went on our ways.
One month later, we had forgotten about this night. Chad came to us excited saying, “the abandoned house” is being fixed up and someone is moving in AND the fire damaged house is being auctioned off to be renovated! We then remembered the prayer walk and praised God for answering our prayer!
Continue to pray for Chad, his family and the work that God is doing in their KC neighborhood. May we praise our God together for his continued work in our lives and this world and may He get the glory!
