BECOMING GOSPEL CENTERED
The Church exists both through the gospel and for the gospel.
The gospel is a word; so the church must be word-centered.
The gospel is a missional word; so the church must be mission-centered.
The gospel is people focused; it creates the Church and the Church is a family that is community-centered.
We the Church are to be gospel centered.
WHAT is the gospel? Simply, the gospel of grace: Sinner saved by Jesus works and not your works for relationship with God.
MAKING IT REAL- Principles Applied- Becoming Gospel Centered
YOUR GOAL IS TO FOCUS ON THE FOLLOWING OVER THE NEXT 1-2 WEEKS
GOD IS A RELATIONAL GOD, from the beginning He has desired a relationship with His people! JESUS IS ALL about people and their relationships, that is why he came to the Earth.
While on Earth, Jesus was a praying man. Jesus was a man connected with the Father. He would say over and over that he was from above but here on Earth to accomplish the will of the Father. He would often go away from people to speak with the Father. He taught his disciples how to pray. He knew that teaching his followers how to pray and modeling prayer for them was not enough. He realized the importance for humanity to be connected to the Father. To make the way for humanity to God, Jesus gave his physical life on the cross so we could be freed from sin and death. Jesus gave his life so we could have spiritual life and be connected with God.
God desires that His people, His creation talk with Him. God desires his Church to be a praying Body which finds its life in a state of prayer, living and breathing in harmony with God.
Being word-centered, mission-centered and people focused/community-centered:
Spend time in the following scriptures. Ask yourself, "How am I to apply my life to match these scriptures?"
Our focus text: Matthew 6:5-15
Old Testament scripts: Genesis Chpt. 2; Exodus 33:7-23; 1 Kings 18:25-39; 1 Samuel 2:1-10; & Psalm 25
Jesus praying for His followers: John Chapter 17
Paul praying for Colossians: Colossians 1:3-14
Answer this Leading Question: Do you find any promises/commands/warnings in these passages? And do you have any objects or questions regarding these passages?
-1st, spend some time with God. In doing so, write out a couple prayers: one based on ACTS and the other on IOUS.(if you need to find these, look at the sermon notes).
-2nd, ask to pray for someone who is a rather new acquaintance. Yes, pray with someone and for this person who you have never prayed with before.
People focused, community-centered
Living in community:
-get coffee with someone and share about the above things. Ask for prayer and for help in needed areas and share what steps God wants you to take, commit before God with that person to move in the direction God has made clear, and ask for the other person to hold you accountable to travel your God given path.
-Men: Coffee, Bacon and Eggs on Saturday @ 9am
-Women: You are encouraged to setup a time to get together.
To help us wrestle with God's Word and engage as a community, answer these questions prior to the next Saturday evening worship gathering.
Making It Real
