PRINCIPLES APPLIED & LIVED OUT:
A New & Repentant Heart
January 16th, Gathering
Matthew Chapter 23
At River Market Community Church we desire to be a group of people plugging into God's Story. To plug into God's Story we are to be gospel-, mission- and community-centered. To help us in our journey of becoming centered in such a way, we apply and live out principles and truths found in the Bible.
WHAT is the gospel? Simply, the gospel of grace: We are sinners saved by Jesus' works and not our own works for relationship with God.
It helps to view this chapter with the lens of Jesus sharing these words as he walks toward the cross. Jesus is following God's will and headed to the place of humble servanthood and sacrificial (or giving) love. He will be stretched out on the cross for all of humanity! So, as Jesus, three days before his death, holds up God's loving mirror he hopes it will lead all to a new and repentant heart.
The Mirror is beautiful and needed in our lives as we follow Jesus and grow in our relationship with God. It saddens God when we fall into the same traps as the people Jesus is talking to and warning in this chapter. We have an opportunity to live in a real and growing relationship with God and in community with his family, his Church. God's loving mirror of identity, accountability and conviction leads to us becoming more like Jesus and brings God glory.
Here are some things we discussed and God revealed to us at the gathering:
As God's Church, His family, his sons and daughters, as Jesus' disciples we are called to be a light on a hill. We want to live the one life we have been gifted to exalt Jesus. This year of 2016, RMCC hopes to become better at existing for and through the gospel, living on mission & in community!
Work through the following questions to help you grow in your relationship with God and apply some of the principles from Matthew Chapter 23:
Your missional goal this week:
In the upcoming weeks, prayerfully ask God to give you an opportunity to share how you are on a faith journey developing a new and repentant heart through faith in the gospel of Jesus. Seize the moment that God provides to share these things with someone in your neighborhood, school or work place.
Lastly, build a Missional habit. Commit to eat with 3 people each week. (Pray over and/or with these people. If you feel led journal the difficulties and joys in your process to grow in your relationship with God by growing in your relationship with others.)

WE EXIST Through and For the Gospel
The gospel is a message of good news that is clearly laid out in the Bible, God's word; so the church must be word-centered. It is a word that transforms us, moves through us and rings out into our communities.
WE LIVE On A Mission
The gospel is a missional word; so the church must be mission-centered. We find ourselves in many relationships with all different kinds of people. We become comfortable in the way the relationship operates and become complacent in getting to know each other in deeper ways. It is good for our own growth and the growth of our relationships to talk of deeper matters including passions, dreams, emotions, politics and spiritual beliefs.
WE ARE In and Through Community
The gospel is people focused; it creates the Church and the Church is a family that is community-centered
To help us wrestle with God's Word and engage as a community, answer these questions prior to the next Saturday evening worship gathering.
Making It Real
This application piece is a follow-up to each Saturday evening sermon. We typically discuss assignments at the Missional Community Gatherings.
