BECOMING GOSPEL CENTERED
The Church exists both through the gospel and for the gospel.
The gospel is a word; so the church must be word-centered.
The gospel is a missional word; so the church must be mission-centered.
The gospel is people focused; it creates the Church and the Church is a family that is community-centered.
We the Church are to be gospel centered.
WHAT is the gospel? Simply, the gospel of grace: Sinner saved by Jesus works and not your works for relationship with God.
MAKING IT REAL - Principles Applied - Becoming Gospel Centered
YOUR GOAL IS TO FOCUS ON THE FOLLOWING OVER THE NEXT 1-2 WEEKS
GOD IS A RELATIONAL GOD, from the beginning He has desired a relationship with His people! JESUS IS ALL about people and their relationships, that is why he came to the Earth.
We as people are meant to(designed to) collect treasure(treasure, glory, praise). Left on our own, humanity stockpiles treasures here on earth that will not last forever. Jesus came to show us that greater treasures exist and to open our eyes to the fact that we have it wrong. He didn't proclaim that we should be deprived of what we desperately desire. We are actually given higher objects--the glory of God (John 5:44), the glorying in the cross (Gal. 6:14), and the treasure in heaven.
God desires that His people, His creation to be connected to Him. God desires his Church to be a giving, praying, and fasting Body which finds its life in a state of living and breathing in harmony with God. God wants us to follow the way of Jesus.
Being word-centered, mission-centered, & people focused/community-centered
Spend time in the following scriptures. Ask yourself, "How am I to apply my life to match these scriptures?"
Our focus text: Matthew 6:16-24
Old Testament scripts:Psalm 139 & Psalm 145
Jesus in Wilderness: Matthew Chapter 4
Paul praying for Colossians: Colossians 1:3-14
Answer this Question: Do you find any promises/commands/warnings in these passages? And do you have any objects or questions regarding these passages?
-1st, Internal Training: choose to fast from something, anything for a minimum of one day. Use the time you would normally do that thing to seek God in the Bible or in prayer. If you feel like it, journal your thoughs and feelings.
Purpose of fasting: allow followers of Jesus more ready and cheerful to accomplish what God has called them to do.
If the eye(heart) is focused on the created instead of the Creator, the disciple is lost.
-2nd, Treasure to Serve: Choose to serve someone in your workplace this week. Choose to invite them to share lunch with you, bring them a coffee, spend time talking with them listening, etc. Your goal is to get to intentionally develop your relationship with someone at work. If it becomes clear how you can help them in a small way then do it.
People focused, community-centered
Living in community:
-get coffee with someone and share about the above things. Ask for prayer and for help in needed areas and share what steps God wants you to take, commit before God with that person to move in the direction God has made clear, and ask for the other person to hold you accountable to travel your God given path.
-Men: Coffee, Bacon and Eggs on Saturday @ 9am
-Women: You are encouraged to setup a time to get together
To help us wrestle with God's Word and engage as a community, answer these questions prior to the next Saturday evening worship gathering.
Making It Real
This application piece is a follow-up to each Saturday evening sermon. We typically discuss assignments at the Missional Community Gatherings.
